We are looking for a bright, practical and personable Framing Assistant to join our team at our framing centre at Holme Grange Craft Village.

This is a varied, customer-facing role combining framing administration, customer service and hands-on workshop assistance. You will help customers with their framing enquiries, take and process framing orders using our in house developed software, and work alongside our experienced Picture Framer to support the day-to-day running of the framing centre.

You do not need to be an experienced Picture Framer. We are looking for someone with the right aptitude, attention to detail and willingness to learn. Training will be provided, with the opportunity to gradually develop practical picture framing and workshop skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome customers and assist with framing enquiries and orders.

• Take accurate measurements, calculate dimensions and process framing orders.

• Use our in house developed software to record and manage customer orders.

• Assist with ordering materials and general framing administration.

• Communicate with customers regarding their orders and collections.

• Support our Picture Framer with preparation and workshop tasks.

• Learn practical framing techniques and gradually take on more responsibility as your skills develop.

• Help maintain an organised, clean and professional workshop and customer area.

Must-Haves

• Numerically astute with a minimum of GCE Mathematics and confident working with measurements and calculations.

• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook.

• Comfortable using computers and learning new software – you should be naturally tech-savvy.

• Personable, confident and well-presented, with excellent customer service skills.

• Good attention to detail and an organised approach to work.

• Reliable, proactive and able to follow instructions carefully.

• A genuine willingness to learn and develop new skills.

• Comfortable working both independently and as part of a small team.

Advantageous

• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

• Living locally to Holme Grange Craft Village / Wokingham.

• Experience with Adobe Photoshop and/or Illustrator.

• Experience using hand tools, power tools or woodworking equipment.

• Previous experience in framing, art, print, crafts, manufacturing or another practical workshop environment.

Hours

The position will initially be part-time, allowing time for training and development alongside our experienced Picture Framer. For the right person, there is the potential for the role to develop into a full-time Picture Framer position as their skills, confidence and responsibilities grow.

We are particularly interested in someone who combines strong Adobe Photoshop and technical skills with an understanding of art and excellent customer service. The role will be both technical and customer-facing, working directly with artists, photographers and customers to help prepare, scan and reproduce their work to a professional standard.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate professional fine art printing and high-resolution artwork scanning equipment.

• Prepare customer artwork and image files for print and digital reproduction.

• Use Adobe Photoshop for image preparation, resizing, cropping, adjustments and colour correction.

• Check image resolution, dimensions, colour profiles and file quality before printing.

• Scan original artwork and prepare high-quality digital files.

• Assist customers with printing and scanning enquiries, specifications and orders.

• Manage digital files and customer orders accurately and methodically.

• Carry out quality checks and ensure work is produced to a consistently high standard.

• Help maintain an organised and professional printing and scanning workspace.

• Learn and develop further knowledge of fine art papers, printing, scanning and colour-management workflows.

Must-Haves

• Strong working knowledge and practical experience of Adobe Photoshop.

• Highly computer-literate and naturally tech-savvy, with confidence learning new software and equipment.

• Excellent digital file-management skills and strong attention to detail.

• A good appreciation and understanding of art, photography, colour and image quality.

• Numerically astute and confident working with measurements, dimensions and calculations.

• Personable, well-presented and confident dealing directly with customers.

• Excellent communication and organisational skills.

• Patient and methodical, with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.

• Self-motivated, reliable and willing to learn and develop.

• Full UK driving licence and access to a car.

Advantageous

• Previous experience in fine art or photographic printing.

• Experience scanning and digitising original artwork.

• Knowledge of colour management, ICC profiles and print preparation.

• Experience with large-format professional printers and/or flatbed artwork scanners.

• Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Canva.

• Experience working with artists, photographers or within a gallery, print studio or other creative environment.

We envisage this initially being a part-time position with the potential to develop into a full-time role as our printing and scanning business grows.
