Art Scanning & Digitising

High-definition scanning designed to digitise artwork with true colour and fine detail — ideal for printing, archiving, and professional reproduction.

Designed for Artists & Creators

Our art scanning service is designed for artists and photographers who want to reproduce their work professionally.

We understand how important colour accuracy, texture, and detail are when turning an original into a print. Whether you're preparing artwork for giclée printing, building a portfolio, or archiving your work, we ensure your digital files remain true to the original.

What We Can Scan

  • Original paintings (acrylic, oil, mixed media)

  • Watercolours and drawings

  • Fine art prints and illustrations

  • Photography and portfolios

  • Old or delicate artworks

  • Embroidery and Stitchwork

High Definition Scanning

We use professional Epson 12000XL flatbed graphics scanners, capturing artwork at an extremely high resolution of up to 6,400 dpi with 48-bit colour depth.

This allows us to reproduce colour, tone, and fine detail with exceptional accuracy — delivering files with far greater clarity than standard digital photography, ideal for high-quality print and archiving.

For larger originals, artwork is scanned in multiple sections and seamlessly stitched together to produce a single, distortion-free image with consistent detail throughout.

Minor blemishes can also be carefully corrected where required.

How it Works

We’ve designed our art scanning service to be simple, efficient, and tailored to artists.

1. Bring Your Artwork

You can bring your artwork to our main gallery in Wokingham or our framing centre in Holm Grange Craft Village. We’ll assess the piece, provide you with a quote, and prepare it for scanning.

2. High-Resolution Scanning

Your artwork is scanned using professional equipment to capture accurate colour, tone, and detail. Larger pieces are scanned in sections and carefully stitched together.

3. Files Ready for Use

Each scan includes a complete set of files for different purposes:

  • High resolution TIF for professional printing and editing

  • High resolution JPG for general use and printing

  • Compressed JPG for licensing and print-on-demand

  • Web-ready JPG for marketing and social media

4. Ready for Print

Your files can be seamlessly prepared for giclée printing, ensuring a consistent and reliable result from scan to final print.

5. Turnaround & Delivery

Typical lead time is around 3–4 days, depending on the number and size of artworks.

You can bring a high-speed USB (allow around 4GB per scan), or we can provide one for you if needed.

6. Volume Discounts

We offer discounts for multiple scans:

  • 5 or more scans — 10% discount

  • 10 or more scans — 20% discount

Why Choose Art Scanning Over Photography?

A professional art scan captures colour, tone and detail with far greater consistency than standard photography. Unlike a camera image, scanning avoids issues such as uneven lighting, lens distortion, glare and shadow, creating a clean, accurate digital file that is ideal for giclée printing, archiving, licensing and professional artwork reproduction.

Photographed Painting

This is a photograph of an original painting taken using a high specification 20 megapixel digital camera having a resolution of 5,480 x 3,655 pixels.
Note the colour, tone and contrast inaccuracy and distortion across the image. At the publishing industry standard 300dpi resolution, this photograph can be printed at 12.2″ x 18.3″ (46.4cm x 30.9cm). That’s A3, which appears quite large, but see how blurred the image is. High resolution is meaningless if the pixels are blurred. In reality, it will still appear blurred even on a greeting card and would not be of an acceptable quality.

Scanned Painting

This is just the low resolution scanned Image of the same painting.
This is the resolution that is typically used in websites, social media and marketing. Although it’s only 1,000 pixels wide, it’s far better quality than the photograph as there’s no distortion, the pixels are clear and 100% accurate in colour, tone and contrast.
The high resolution image used for printing has stunning image clarity even at huge print sizes.
