Kellyanne Thorne
Artist
Kingston-upon-Thames, UK
Kelly originally specialised in sculpture during her Fine Art Degree before becoming a secondary school art teacher. After having her 3 children she rediscovered her passion for drawing and it has since become her full-time occupation; she feels very fortunate to be able to create and pursue her passion.
Kelly’s portfolio includes a wide range of commissioned work including signage for Fishponds Park in Surbiton, business and private commissions as well as a series of six children’s books on neurodiversity. Illustrating these books was not only an amazing experience for Kelly but a passion project due to her children’s diagnosis of Autism, Dyspraxia and Dyslexia.
Drawing inspiration from the natural world, Kelly finds beauty in everything from the colourful bloom of flowers to the grace of animals and birds. Her current pieces combine vases and pots of flora and foliage which she has either received as a gift or spotted when out and about. She combines these with detailed birds, butterflies, or bugs to give life, movement and energy to the pieces. It is through the translucent washiness of watercolours and the layered textures and marks created by the pen that she celebrates the magnificence of nature.
