What Is Wokingham En Plein Air?

En plein air is a French term meaning "in the open air," referring to the practice of painting outdoors. This event takes that tradition to a new level by inviting up to 122 artists to paint live in 49 different locations throughout Wokingham and California Country Park. The goal is to capture the town’s natural beauty, architecture, and community spirit in real time.

The event is more than just a competition. It’s a celebration of creativity that encourages participation from everyone, whether you are a seasoned professional or a beginner. The limited spaces at each location ensure an intimate and focused experience for artists.

How the Event Works

On June 14, artists will set up their easels at designated spots across the town and park. Each location offers a unique view or subject, from historic buildings and bustling streets to serene natural landscapes. Artists will paint live throughout the day, allowing visitors to watch the creative process unfold.

After the painting sessions, all artworks will be displayed in an exhibition at Market Place. This public showing gives everyone a chance to appreciate the diverse interpretations of Wokingham’s scenery and community.
