Sharon Goodenough is a British contemporary artist based in Ascot, Berkshire. Working in oils, she paints the sea, aiming to capture not simply how a stretch of coast looks, but how it feels to stand before it: the light, the movement, the moment your breathing slows.
Her eye was trained early through photography and special effects make-up, two disciplines rooted in light, detail and visual storytelling. After studying art and undertaking further training in traditional oil painting techniques, she became a full-time artist in midlife.
Sharon builds each painting through layers of colour and texture, responding to the canvas as it develops rather than following a fixed plan. The ever-changing relationship between sea, sky and shoreline is a constant source of inspiration, alongside the quieter patterns of the wider natural world.
Beneath the paint, there is often writing. Song lyrics, affirmations and words she wants to hold onto are written onto the canvas before being painted over. Though hidden from view, they become part of the painting, subtly shaping the work beneath its visible surface.
Her work has been exhibited in London, Madrid and Luxembourg, as well as at the Royal Windsor Horse Show and Royal Windsor Flower Show, and is held in private collections in the UK and internationally. She has been featured in House & Garden and Artist & Illustrator, including a four-page step-by-step feature on painting a crashing wave. She creates original paintings, limited edition prints and commissioned works.
Her paintings bring light, space and a sense of connection to the natural world into the home.
