Richard is a multi - award winning, professional artist with nearly 20 years’ experience in all aspects of the art world. He opened his first gallery in 2021 in Wokingham, Berkshire UK – R Young Art Gallery.

Born in Yorkshire in 1961, Richard always had a flair for art.
After graduating in engineering in 1983 he pursued a career as an engineering and design consultant. Holding various managerial roles with international design consulting companies he lived primarily in the Middle East. Nevertheless, his passion for art continued and he returned to Commercial Art in 2003, initially as a semi-professional, self - taught artist. Demand for Richard’s work grew and he began exhibiting all over the World including Barcelona, Hong Kong, Taiwan, USA & throughout the UK. In 2018 Richard returned to live in the UK and became a full-time artist.
Predominantly a figurative artist, Richard creates all of his oil paintings entirely by knife, often in a limited colour palette and mixing only on the canvas - a skill which he has perfected over the years. Defining his artwork style as being contemporary realism, the technique he favours is a form of segmented alla prima, completed in four wet on wet layers during each painting session: The dark shadows and undertones, the mid tones and then the highlights and light glaze effects.
